Welcome!

Hello, everyone!  My name is Ms. Wheeland.  This year, as one of our team of Social Studies teachers, I will be teaching 4 sections of World History and 2 sections of ESL Civics.  I cannot wait to work with all the students, families, and staff here at CASHS this year!

About Me

Before we get into the details of the year, allow me to tell you a little bit about myself.  This is my first year at CASHS, as well as my first year teaching overall.  I graduated Cum Laude in May 2022 from Clarion University of Pennsylvania with a Bacheolor's of Science in Education.  You might recognize this by what it's now known as, Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion Campus.  While at Clarion, I was lucky enough to work with multiple different subjects and grade levels during student teaching, including World History, American History, Geography, and Civics.  In addition to the range of subjects I worked with, I was also able to work with a variety of different ages and grade levels, starting in grade 7 and going all the way up to grade 12.

The main thing to know about my teaching philosophy is that I tend to focus on hands on learning.  The way I see it is that a student who is not engaged is a student who is not learning, so making sure that students are active and participating at every step of the process is of upmost importance to me.  Making sure that students feel safe, able, and ready to participate is just as important as the participation itself, so my second main priority is to guarantee that my classroom is as welcoming an environment as possible.
